St Pats win tussle with Glenavy

On Friday 20th, St Pats welcomed Glenavy to Kirkwoods Road, with a huge turnout of supporters for both clubs. In the Under12 Go Games the matches swung backwards and forwards with St.Pats securing wins in the last few minutes. These matches were refereed by young whistlers, Daniel O’Hanlon and Michael Brannan.

In the U-14 South West league match, played in breezy conditions, the first half was very close with St.Pats scoring points from Faustus Paurys, Peter O’Neill, Mark Boylan and Conor Stinton with Glenavy replying with three points. St Pats played some super football but found it difficult to take their scores into the Magheralave Road end. HT St.Pats 0-4 Glenavy 0-3.
The second half was completely dominated by the St.Patricks boys, the defensive unit of Conor Dixon, Ruairi Cormican (who han an exceptional game), Johann Drayne, Mark O’Hanlon, Eamon Compston and Rory Flynn, cleaned out the Glenavy forwards with hard tackles, and super covering, they restrict Glenavy to 1-1, the goal coming from a well struck penalty which gave Jamie Frazer no chance. However, the feast of scoring was reserved for the home team, who completely out played Glenavy in midfield, to set up attack after attack. Mark Boylan and Tighearian O Meallaigh were magnificent throughout winning the vast majority of kick outs  and breaking ball. They set up some fantastic flowing football which lead to a series of scores, Conor Stinton started the half with 2 points , Mark Boylan scored a thunderous penalty and then a point; David Mc Nally, netted twice, one a delightful chip, Conor Stinton added 1-1, with Peter O’Neill and David Mc  Nally scoring goals to complete the scoring, ably supported by Ben Chernak and Eoin Mulholland.

On Friday 27th May both teams are at home to Aghagallon U-12′s. Throw in @ 6 45 pm  U-14 throw in @ 7.30pm

    It’s great to be able to see the youngster’s results and how they are going and progressing!! I’ve just viewed Tha U’8′s V Glenavy on You Tube. (who would have thought back in the old days at Causeway End Rd. that the club would have a great junior programme).

    To all the coaching staff and those with vision for the future … Keep up the great work!!!
