U-16s through to Semi-Finals after strong win over St. Enda's

As the season comes close to the end the under 16’s from
St Patrick’s seem to have found a bit of form. On Thursday
past they played the quarter final of the shield against
St Enda’s. The match had to be moved to Twinbrook as
Kirkwoods Road was waterlogged. A sizeable panel assembled
in good time for the match and were kept waiting sometime
for St Enda’s to arrive. This however did not unsettle the
Lisburn teamand from the throw in they attacked. Indeed
but for some excellent goal keeping by the Glengormley net
minder Sean O’Doherty’s low driven shot would have put St.
Pat’s up after 15 seconds. It was after 90 seconds that an
inspirational Mark Torbitt opened the scoring with a fine
point. This was followed by a point from Centre half

forward Declan Dillon who made a great run through the
middle. It was all in the one half at this stage but as
always happens when the ball came up the field the backs
were caught napping and suddenly St Enda’s hit the onion
bag for 3 points. This certainly awakened the whole team
and seems to have been what was needed as the Lisburn lads
hit the next 7 scores, with five different players getting
on the score sheet. (A McDonald 0-1, P McMahon 0-1, D
Dillon 0-1, M Owens 0-1 and M Torbitt 0-3). with the score
now 9 points to 3 it seemed like the home side were going
to push on, but yet again the visitors hit back, scoring a
goal and a point in quik succession to pull the score up
to 9 points to 7 points. Luckily for the Lisburn lads a
McDonald finished the scoring in the first half with a
point . This left the half time score: St Pat’s 0-10 St
Enda’s 2-01.
The second half seemed more evenly matched with St Enda’s
puting forward a more cocerted effort and running through
from mid field to launch a wave of attacks. However at
this stage the backs for Lisburn were well on top and
through great work and a couple of excellent blocks from
Centre Half Back S.Marley they managed to deal with
everything that was thrown at them.
The forwards were having a quiet spell for the first 5
minutes or so but when the ball did get up both corner
forwards took on the oppostion and fired over points. ( M.
Owens 0-02 and A.McDonald 0-01). This put six between them
nd the game looked to be won. St Enda’s had other ideas
and despite living off scraps they managed to get another

3 pointer from a high ball into the square. at this stage
the Lisburn management were furious as they had played all
the football , with probably 75% 0f the possesion and were

only 3 points ahead. As in previous weeks they feared that
the team would start to fold and let St Enda’s back into
the match. They should not have worried as d dillon was in
great form and eventually got through for a 3 pointer. He

followed this up with another point and then right half

forward B Hoffman hit a sweet point to put sevsn between
them. With time running out and the light fading the
visitors scored the last two scores but the result was not
in doubt. Final score St Patrick’s 1-15 St Enda’s 3-03.
When you look at the scores , 16 scores for the home side
and 6 for the visitors it would appear to have been a one
sided game, however , the Lisburn lads and management will
have to look at the periods were they appeared to relax
and allow the visitors to get back into the game. Best for
Lisburn were Stephen Marley , Michael Wolfe and Denver
Taggart in defence with Mark Torbitt running the show in
the middle and both Marcus Owens and Declan Dillon
clinical in front of the posts.
They await the winners of the Quarter final between
Glenravel and Creggan.
