Minors pick up another 2 points to hit top of the league!

St Patrick’s Minor team produced their most complete performance of the season on Tuesday against well fancied Tir Na n’Og of Randalstown. Having lost the away fixture by a point and knowing that defeat would knock them out of the league competition the young Lisburn side were fully motivated and focused on the task in hand. The locals raced into a 4 point lead with scores from Paul Anderson , Josh McMullan, Peter Casey and Kevin Parker. Such was the Lisburn sides dominance of the visitor’s kick out midfield pairing Parker and Michael Johnson did not allow Tir Na n’Og out of their own half for the first fifteen minutes. Corner forward Anderson scored the first goal by tapping the ball around the keeper at full stretch to give the locals a 1-4 to 0-0 lead halfway through the half. A rare attacking move saw the visitors forward fouled on the edge of the square and a penalty rightly awarded, however Darren McCrory stood tall and pushed the penalty way for a 45 yard kick. Lisburn defended the 45 well and a lightning break ended with Anderson netting for the second time. Randalstown rallied and scored three unanswered points from free kicks. Lisburn replied with well taken points from Thomas Burns and Anderson. The first half finished 2-6 to 0-4. The second half was a closer contest as far as scoring was concerned with the Lisburn side again on top and never looking in danger of losing the lead. Patrick Agnew and Casey scored 2 points each and these were followed by points from Anderson and Declan Dillon registering his first Minor score. At this stage with the score at 2-12 to 0-4 the locals noticibly took their foot off the pedal and in an uncharacteristically indisciplined 5 minute spell conceded 6 frees in scoring positions which were eagerly converted to bring the scores within 8 points.  St Patrick’s grabbed the upper hand again and points from Dillon ,Anderson , Burns and Josh McMullan extended the lead to 12 points again. Agnew finished off the scoring with two further points leaving the final score 2-18 to 0-12.
In a match where every player played to their full potential Man of the Match Award goes to Stephen Marley who not only totally dominated his forward but swept up numerous loose ball throughout the game and started scoring attacks.

  1. Its great to see that all the hard work started by the committee years ago is starting to bear fruit with the minors seniors and all underage teams starting to be a force to be reckoned with – I think it wont be long until there is a lot of success for all the teams concerned – keep the good work up – chucky
