St. Patrick’s seniors resumed their league campaign after a 3 week break on Saturday afternoon at Kirkwoods against Ahoghill. With the teams positioned 2nd and 3rd in the league the locals were expecting a close run contest knowing a win would leapfrog them into second place with a game in hand over their opponents. A whirlwind first half saw the locals score 1-8 to 0-1 as the forward and half forward line tore the Ahoghill defence apart with their free running football. The full forward line of Eoin Fay , Patrick Agnew and Paul Anderson contributing 1-6 with Tomas Fay and Hugh McGurnaghan completing the scoring with a point each. The locals dominated the first half to the extent that Ahoghill’s only score came in injury time. Whatever was said in the Ahoghill changing room at hallf time had the desired effect as they scored the first four points of the second half without reply. There was a more physical edge to the visitors play now and McGurnaghan was on the receiving end of a fierce challenge which left him struggling for movement and he was eventually substituted. Another challenge in midfield saw the Ahoghill player forced to leave the field of play and without a substitute this left Lisburn with a numerical advantage for the remainder of the game. Conor Beeton was given the free – man role as St Patricks regained superiority with minor starlet Anderson benefitting most by completing a hat-trick of goals( the third celebrated with his ‘Usain Bolt’ style pose). Tony Brown marked his return to action with a well taken point and Eoin Fay who led the forward line superbly finished off the scoring with a point. Special mention must also go to Declan Fay for recording a clean sheet in goal. The match ended 3-11 to 0-7 and St Patricks find themselves rightfully in second place in the league with leaders Moneyglass now firmly in their sights. Best on the day for Lisburn were full back Brendan Doran and the midfield pairing of Tomas Fay and Michael Johnson but Man-of-the-Match award goes to full forward Paul Anderson whose personal tally of 3-4 underlined his undoubted talent.
