St Patrick’s senior team entertained Rossa to Kirkwoods park on Sunday afternoon with both teams contributing to a thoroughly entertaining contest. The first half was a very evenly matched contest with both defences restricting scoring opportunities to long range efforts. Corner forwards Patrick Agnew & Paul Anderson scored two points each with Tomas Fay rounding off the half with a well taken point. As the half progressed the Lisburn midfield pairing of Tomas Fay and Stuart McTaggart were becoming more and more dominant and although half time arrived with Lisburn 0-5 to 0-6 behind; the entire team were more than confident that a similar effort in the second half would pay dividends. Lisburn started the second half as they had finished the first with a quick point from Ciaran Fay. Converted full back Mark Kearney then stretched the locals lead with a perfectly placed finish through a wall of defenders that put daylight between the two sides. The Lisburn side were running rampant at this stage and a point each from Eoin and Tomas Fay put Lisburn five points ahead and Rossa were obviously demoralised. The move of the match was then instigated by full back Brendan Dornan. As keeper McCrory was setting up for a long kick out Dornan noticed Michael Johnston in space and played a short ball to the young wing back. Johnston gathered the ball and played return hand passes with McTaggart and Kearney which took the ball into Rossa territory. He spotted Andereson making a run towards goal on the far side of the field and sent a pin point pass 45 metres across the pitch. Rossa’s keeper came out to field the ball and as the ball bounce up the Lisburn forward rose above him to tap the ball into an empty net. Lisburn further extended their lead with points from Hugh McGurnaghan, Eoin Fay and corner forwards Anderson and Agnew. Johnston then converted a point from the right hand touchline when sprinting at full speed which would not have looked out of place in an All Ireland final before Agnew completed the scoring. Probably the most complete performance of the season from the seniors who for the first time in years find themselves comfortably placed in mid-table leading into the July break.Stand out performances from Tomas Fay , Stuart McTaggart and Brendan Dornan , however Man Of The Match title goes to Minor star Michael Johnston whose personal performances are improving week on week.
