St Patricks GAC Lisburn

6 in a row for Minors!

St Patricks Minors hosted Ballymena at Kirkwoods Park on Saturday afternoon in a re-arranged league match. Having won the away fixture by a single point the Minors knew they would have to be on top form to complete the double over their opponents. St Patricks started brightly with forwards Paul Anderson and Patrick Agnew opening a 5 point lead. Ballymena responded with two points before Peter Casey converted a flowing move with a well taken point. Full forward Mark Kearney took control of the game for the next five minutes and neatly converted two half chances to goals to give the local side a commanding lead heading for half time. Uncharacteristically the Lisburn side switched off completely and allowed Ballymena to claw their way back into the game by scoring two points and a goal before the break leaving the scores at 2-6 to 1-4. The first fifteen minutes of the second half saw an exchange of 3 points each as the young locals strived to hit their first half form again.Lisburn were reduced to 14 men when half back McMullan received his second yellow card. This upset the St Patricks side rhythm again and Ballymena took full advantage firing over 3 unanswered points to bring them to within two points of the Lisburn side. Michael Johnston and Conor Beeton then drove the Lisburn team into Ballymena territory for the remainder of the game with Johnston rightfully ending off a man of the match performance with the games last point. St Patricks deservedly .ran out 2-10 to 1-10 winners. Scorers on the day: Mark Kearney 2-0, Patrick Agnew and Paul Anderson 0-4 each with Peter Casey and Michael Johnston contributing 0-1 each.   Minor will now enjoy a 4 week break in match and will be back in action 21 July.
