St Patricks minors travelled to Martinstown on Saturday afternoon to play Con Magee’s , Glenravel in a league fixture. Buoyed by the recent win against Antrim the locals expected a sterner test against physically stronger opposition. The points were ultimately decided by the right boot of Paul Anderson (9 points) and the left boot of Patrick Agnew (6 points) who between them scored all St Patrick’s 15 points in a keenly contested match. Playing into a stiff breeze in the first half the Lisburn back line worked tirelessly to present opportunities to their forward line who were regularly fouled within site of goal. Anderson’s faultless spot kicking punished every indiscretion and a further point from Agnew had the locals ahead 0-6 to 0-4 at half time. With the wind at their backs in the second half Agnew was moved to the edge of the square in a tactical change which Glenravel’s defence simply could not handle. Agnew and Anderson continued to add points from all angles as the midfield domination of Kevin Parker and Michael Johnstone offered good territorial possession from which the Lisburn forward line profited.Just as Lisburn started to put some distance between the scores their hosts scored the only goal of the game quickly followed by a point which levelled things with five minutes remaining. To their credit St Patricks did not panic and stepped up a gear driven on by Thomas Burns and Matthew McGuigan in the half back line.Indeed Lisburn spent the rest of the game encamped in the Glenravel half. Each time Agnew received the ball it ended with a point from himself or a free from Anderson as the Lisburn side ran out 0-15 to 1-7 winners. Overall an encouraging team performance from the minors. Man of the match for Lisburn was Michael Johnstone who put in a hardworking,all-action performance at the heart of Lisburn’s midfield.
