St Patrick’s minors travelled to Randalstown for their league encounter with Tir na N’og minors returning empty handed after losing the game by the slenderest of margins. The young locals can feel very disappointed to have played so well and have noting to show for their endeavours in a ding-dong affair which either team could have won right until the last kick of the game. The first half ended 1-3 apiece the highlight of which was a stunning goal by the Mick Mulligan who travelled three quarters the length of the field leaving half the Randalstown defence in his wake before smashing the ball into the net. 2 points from the ever industrious Paul Anderson and a point from full forward Johnny French completed the Lisburn scoring. The socond half followed the same patten as the first with one team scoring an the other equalising and then taking the lead. 3 more points from Anderson gave the Lisburn side a one point lead and when Josh McMullan threw himself full length to block a clearance the rebound bounced into the net and the young locals had a 4 point lead. To their credit Randalstown responded with five converted free kicks to give them the lead again entering the last few minutes. Ben McMullan then kicked the equalising point for Lisburn and the game was heading for a draw which probably would have been a fair result. On the final whistle Randalstown were awarded a free kick and their full forward converted the kick to the bitter disappointment of the Lisburn team. Amongst many good performances for the young locals Michael Johnstone and Ben McMullan took the plaudits as joint man-of-the match.
