U-16 take on Ballymenna at Home.

Lisurn U16 team played their first home game of the season last Thursday. Apart from the first few minutes of the first half it was a bit of a nightmare for the home side. Lisburn opened the scoring when D Eastwood put a lovely ball into the corner for M Owens to run onto turn his man and split the posts from an acute angle. After that good start it was all Ballymena. The visitors hit 2-02 without reply with their impressive centre half forward being involved in all the scores. M Torbitt hit back with a free after young S O’Doherty was pulled down as he was heading goal bound. The next 5 scores came from Ballymena with the centre half “Pizza” scoring 4 of them. Before the half time whistle Lisburn did pull back a couple of points from Torbitt and O’Doherty.

At half time the management was forced into some changes as P McMahon was not fit to go on with a chest injury. C Mc Garry dropped into full back with S Mullan moving to the middle of the park and D Mc Canny coming on as corner forward. As soon as the ball was thrown in it broke to S Mullan who passed to Mc Canny and he duly converted the score. Unfortunately Mc Canny fell awkwardly and was then replaced by A Mc Donald. The home team played with much more confidence and Mc Garry at full back with N McKillion and P McKibben on either side stopped the Ballymena attack scoring so easily. It also appeared that S Marley
was now getting the measure of “Pizza”. The breaking ball was now increasingly been picked up by D Taggart J McMullan and D Burns. The ball had gone in and Owens and O’Doherty combined well to get a couple of goals. M Torbitt added a point but it all too late to pull back. The final score was Lisburn 2.06. Ballymena 4.12. Next week they face Dunloy at home and if they could play a full 60 minutes like the second half the result may well be a good one.
