St. Pat’s U14s get first win of the season.
In a high scoring game in which there were a total of 12 goals, 3 which were disallowed as the referee ruled they were square balls, Lisburn got their first win of the season over All Saints Ballymena.
The St Pats lads started off strongly with goals from R Murtagh and a point a piece from Mark Casey and Sean O’Doherty. However for the middle third of the half Ballymena showed how dangerous they could be. With some great work combining the midfield the centre half forward and the full forward they notched up a score of 2-02 in seven minutes. The defence for St. Pats then settled down and with great displays from full back P.McMahon and centre half back J McMullan, they managed to stop the flow of scores. The home side finished the half strongly with scores from S O’Doherty (2-00) and Marcus Owens (1-02).
Half time score St Pats 4-03. Ballymena 2-02.
In the second half the Lisburn team again started strongly with well taken goals by Marcus Owens and Mark Casey. At this stage it was all one way and Lisburn were dominating in every position. However, just like the first half, they failed to sustain the pressure and allowed Ballymena to come back with 1-02. Some great work by Sean Mullan and A McDonald in the middle of the field settled things and Lisburn finished off the scoring with a point a piece from Declan Burns and Chris Morgan.
This was a fine performance by the St. Pats lads but they will have to learn to maintain the pressure for the full forty minutes if they are to continue winning.
